What’s optical lab equipment used for?

Wearing glasses is a common way to correct vision. Optometry equipment can help optometrists obtain accurate prescriptions, and then we need to use optical processing equipment to make suitable glasses. The optical lab equipment generally includes auto lens edger, pattern maker, centering device, drilling machine, grooving machine, frame heater, ultrasonic cleaner etc. They are essential equipment for optical shops or glasses processing factories.

How the glasses are made with patternless lens edger?

1. Preparation

Let the customer select the frame and lenses, then check whether the lens parameters are consistent with the prescription. Put frame, lenses and prescription in a tray box.

2. Scanning, Blocking & Cutting

Use tracer to take the picture of the demo lens, or scan the frame with scanner, so we could get the lens data of the glasses. Set up and send the data to the lens edger. Then, put the prepared lens into the patternless lens edger with suction cup, one-click to start cutting process. The grooving function is optional.

3. Beveling

After cutting by patternless lens edger, the lens shape is the same as the DEMO lens. Then, we use hand edger to do edge beveling. The sharp edges could be removed, and we get the finished and safe edge.

4. Polishing or Drilling

Generally, for half-frame or rimless glasses, we also need edge polishing to make the edge bright and smooth.
For rimless frame, we could use auto lens drilling machine to drill the holes on the lenses, which are used to connect the bridge and temples.

5. Fitting the lenses in the frame

After left and right lenses are finished, we need to fit them in the frame. The lens can be snapped in, or locked with screws, or installed with nylon wires.

6. Final Inspection

After the glasses is finished, adjust the appearance slightly, we could use auto lensmeter to check this glasses parameters. To make sure all parameters are the same as the prescription.
